2020 Presidential Election

I think Biden will eventually be declared the winner and I will peacefully accept it when it happens.

I think there is probably some fraud in every election on both sides, but it has been limited to individuals and is minimal.I think it is more than theoretically possible that there is massive fraud this time on behalf of the democrats. After the conspiratorial efforts to push the Russian Collusion hoax, the lies of elected officials (such as Adam Schiff saying he had irrefutable evidence) and then learning it was completely fabricated and that individuals purposefully lied on FISA applications to perpetuate it, I don’t know how the possibility of the same organization attempting to fraudulently influence the outcome of the election can be ruled out. They impeached Trump on the allegation that he did something we have video proof of Biden doing when he was Vice President.

Challenging issues in court is not contrary to the orderly process of law as long as the final decision of the courts is peaceful accepted. This is how our country avoids anarchy which, by definition, is the absence of order and too often results in violence and massive blood shed. In political theory, anarchy is often considered a necessary step to changing the basic form of government.

I am fearful right now. Even if there is massive fraud, I don’t know if I want it uncovered and the seeming outcome reversed, but if there is massive fraud, the consequences of not revealing it are probably uglier.

If there is massive fraud, I don’t believe the nation as a whole or the powerful that own the media companies want truth. If the courts were to rule that many ballots do not meet the legal requirements to be counted as valid votes, I believe the media and many politicians would publicly not support the courts and claim the election is being stolen. I believe this would result in violence and possibly a civil war of sorts.

If there is massive fraud and it is not exposed, I fear we will become subservient to the perpetrators of the fraud.

I think there are many who don’t believe there has been massive fraud and the law suits are just Trump being a sore loser. They may  very well be correct. No one likes to lose and losing gracefully doesn’t appear to be part of Trump’s nature.

There are some troubling issues that have arisen because of some actions that may have been violations of law and I don’t know of a ruling the courts could make that would satisfy everyone.

Pennsylvania is a significant example. States determine how they will select their electors to represent them in the Electoral College. As I understand it, Pennsylvania law requires mailed ballots to be received from the post office by the close of the polls on election day. The Governor of Pennsylvania (democrat) wanted the time extended, but the legislature (republican) refused to do so. The Pennsylvania constitution clearly states that the legislature determines the laws governing the election.

A case was brought to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. As I understand it, the court did not rule the current law unconstitutional, but due to the current situation, ballots could be received up to 3 days after the election. Believing the courts do not have the authority to change laws that are not unconstitutional, the case was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court ended in a 4-4 tie. When a tie occurs, the lower court ruling prevails, but the U.S. Supreme Court left it open that they could take up the case after the election.

Again, as I understand it, Pennsylvania was ordered to hold all ballots received after the deadline aside. In addition to this, in Pennsylvania law, members of both parties are to be allowed to observe the verification and counting of mailed ballots. The verification starts when the ballot envelope is opened. Signatures are compared with the voter’s signature on record to verify they match. Matching signatures may be a poor form of verification, but if my understanding is correct, that is Pennsylvania law and something that should be considered when choosing to vote by mail.

Allegedly, neither of these lawful requirements were respected. Observers were kept 25 to 30 feet away and not allowed to use cameras. It was brought to a judge who ordered that observers be allowed to observe. Republican poll observers were brought to six feet from some counters, which is still not close enough to satisfy transparency and most of the counters were still further away.

According to the republican party of Pennsylvania, the law was violated and a court case is being brought. Because observers were not allowed to watch the opening of ballots and the verification, the ability for non-partisan verification has been lost. Every legal vote should be counted, but how can the legal votes be determined?

This will probably end up back in the U.S. Supreme Court. If the court rules that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court does not have authority to change or make exceptions to laws that are not unconstitutional, then the obstruction of observers becomes moot because none of the ballots received after the polls closed will be counted. This would put Pennsylvania in the win column for President Trump.

If the courts rule cases in other states as well such that President Trump remains the President, how would his opponents react? Would there be a break down of society? Would the major “news” networks inform their viewers of the evidence presented to the courts and the laws, pro and con, which influenced the court’s decision? I think it is more likely the politicians will say whatever they have to to convince people that they are being wronged.

To me, things look bleak. I can’t think of a peaceful resolution either way and given the violence over the summer, I believe there will be a lot of violence if Trump wins in court. Would it be too much to hope that the courts find no evidence of massive fraud? That would be the best outcome. Maybe it’s just me, but after the efforts of the democrats over the last four years to get rid of Trump, legitimately or not, I’m afraid this might not be the case.
